Jenny asks…

What's the best strategy for marketing my business in Sydney?

We’ve started a new business and would like to know the best strategy to market my business in Sydney. Any help appreciated.….

Jon answers:

o you have a website? If so the best strategy for marketing your business is to go online. We had a company take over our business marketing and within three days we were all over the front page of Google. From memory there were five results on the front page all leading back to us and the phone has been running hot ever since.

They’re called OSD Marketing and are based in Sydney. The website is http://www.officialsoftwaredownloads.com and the phone number from the site is 0448 970 201 We’ve been very happy with the service. Hope this helps.

PS: They also take care of all our newsletters to our customers and the newsletters really look good. Cheers

Jon answers:

Good Luck,

Most companies do not publish their business plans. We don’t.

Why would you want to give your competition your road map?

You might try the national federation of Independent business for a generic one.

I think it is NFIB.org

Good Luck

William asks…

what would be the best low cost marketing strategy for a beginning business?

we are doing our feasibility studies and i’m a management student, im not really familiar with marketing strategies, hope you can suggest something, really appreciate it, thanks!

Jon answers:

First off, you need to create an online presence (aka, a website). Yahoo charges $12 a month to host a website for you, and they make it very easy to publish the page within minutes.

Second, you should sign up for Yahoo! and Google’s Pay Per Click Word Ads. This will help drive people to your website, and you can dictate how much you want to spend per day. Another good one is MyPoints.com, which advertises for you to a demographic you select.

Third, you should sign up with affiliate companies (like Commission Junction) where you pay a commission to businesses and individuals when they sell your product for you. (This is free to join, and you dictate the commission amount.)

Fourth, if you have a product you are selling, you should sign up to show your product at a trade show. This could cost $1,000 to go to, but you can sell enmasse immediately.

Fifth, you should open an “e-store” on ebay and list your products there. This costs a couple bucks per item to sell.

Lastly, you should try to get your local newspaper, and other newspapers around the country, to print a press release regarding your business. This costs the price of the Press Release, which you can put together yourself.

These are the fastest and most basic options for any business that wants to get their products to market.

Hope this helps.
